About Me...

getting to know the gal behind the camera

I am a woman on the go. I am a photographer. I am a mother. I am a wife. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a friend.  I am a down-to-earth girl. But on most days, I’m just ME. I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. I have a passion for scarves (can you ever really have TOO many?). On groggy Monday mornings I NEED my venti-iced-nonfat-latte. I adore gerber daisies. I LOVE fresh, wrinkly babies. I love walking on the beach barefoot and feeling the sand squish between my toes. I have an amazing husband and two adorable sons who are my world.

I’m a Pisces. I’ve always had a creative spirit, so I suppose it was destiny that I would eventually become an artist, although until just a few years ago I did not know what medium would truly inspire me.

How It All Began

Looking back, I’ve always had a love for photos, but didn’t realize until later in life that I wanted to BE the photographer. At a young age I would spend hours sitting on my Grandmother’s bed looking through old family photo albums. There was something about the captured moment that intrigued me. A moment in time that would live on forever. I would stare at every little detail. Facial expressions, clothing, the surroundings… it told so much.

I've played around with cameras ever since I can remember. When I was little, I would sneak into my Dad's dark room and pretend I was developing photos of my own. In high school, my friends and I would turn my garage into a makeshift photo studio and we'd spend hours dressing up and taking photos of each other.

My hobby began to develop into something more serious after my first son was born. I wanted to document everything: his first gummy smile, his first wobbly steps, and everything in between and after. I poured myself into documenting the special moments in my son’s life wholeheartedly. In the process I started to learn not only the technical details that make a great photographer, but also how to record my son’s milestones in unique ways that showed a fresh angle on moments that are too often captured by parents in only blurry snapshots or their hazy memories.

After seeing the pictures of my boys, it wasn’t long before friends and family started asking me to take pictures of their  children. All of the requests brought me to the realization that I had discovered in myself the ability to help others document those special memories I had been capturing for my own family, and that this ability was coupled with a passion for doing just that.

My Style

My style has been described as fresh, playful, and captivating, and I believe that embodies what I try to do perfectly. My approach is very casual and relaxed, I love getting to know and spending time with the families that invite me into their lives. Although I will direct as needed, I prefer to draw out the more spontaneous reactions from within those being photographed in natural light environments. I strive to capture everyday life – that usually includes having some fun and just being real. My number one goal is to freeze that moment in time and have you absolutely in love with the memories I capture! All digital images are shot in color, then presented in a mix of color and black and white.

My Philosophy

To me, photography is about feeling; it’s about everyday moments and expressions that become personal timeless memories. Photographs hold your memories together, and that to me is priceless. The art of photography is about capturing a baby or loved one just as they are today, in that moment, and creating a custom portraiture collection out of those moments we spend together.
